Wat ik hieruit begrijp is dat eerst een tar file gemaakt wordt en
ge-encrypt. Daarna vindt de upload plaats.  Het probleem daarmee is dat
vanwege de encryptie, de rsync algoritme niets uit kan halen (het is te
hopen dat de encryptie voor hetzelfde stukje data niet telkens dezelfde
output produceert, anders zal de encryptie niet veel waard zijn...).

Er staat trouwens ook:

    Duplicity is not stable yet. It is thought to have a few bugs, but
    will work for normal usage, and should continue to work fine until
    you depend on it for your business or to protect important personal
    data. ...
